Van de Putte says no to 2010 governor

There had been considerable speculation during the last few months that Vande Putte, a four-terkm incumbent, might throw her hat in the ring for the governor’sa race next year. But she squelchede that idea today in a statement that is harshlyh criticalof Gov. Rick Perryu and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. “If I believed for a seconcd that it would result in a healthy debatwe of the issues of most importance toTexaa families, I would today be announcinyg my candidacy for governor of Texas,” Van de Puttew says.
“But we have all watcherd over the yearsas Perry, Hutchison, and other Republicanb politicians have launched their scorched earth ‘say anything to win’ viciousw attacks against political opponents. To mask their uttet lack of leadership, they’ll do so again, and I declins to put my familythrough it.” Hutchison is widelyu believed to be gearing up to challenges Perry in the Republican primary for governotr next year. So far the only Democratf to formally announce in the race is Tom who served as ambassador to Australia under PresidengGeorge W. Bush.
