Lee seeks 23% pay cut from Post-Dispatch union - Kansas City Business Journal:

The newspaper publishing company proposed pay cuts of 15 percent in thefirst year, and 5 percentt each in the second and thirde years of the contract, accordin g to information posted on the St. Louis Newspape Guild’s Web site. Lee declined to comment about the proposed concessions andcontract negotiations. “We have always refraine from making any comment or discussingg the substance ofthe negotiations,” said Dan Hayes, a spokesmanm for Lee.
On Guild members voted 100-27 to agree to a seconsd week of furloughs but only if Lee agreed to no layoffe duringcontract negotiations, according to the Guild Web Lee also proposed the following contract changes, according to the Guile Web site: • Cutting unpaid maternituy leave in half, to 12 weeks maximum • The right to fire employeese on sick leave after threed months of absence. The contract now allowd 18 months.
The Guild propose longer funeral leave for the death of spouseaand children, a larger cell-phone reimbursement, a mileagde increase, enhanced severance packages afte r layoffs, additional holidays, a 401(k) match of up to 5 percen and overtime eligibility for columnistz and outside ad reps.
