Harpeth Hall teams up to create online girls school - Business First of Columbus:

The Online School for Girls will begihn offering coursesthis September, including two this fall and four in the sprint 2010 semester spanning math, sciences and the humanities. Students at the member schoolsz will take the classes and evaluate them as apilort run. One initial calculus class will be taughrt by Harpeth Hall math teacherJennifer Webster. The other schools in the groupp are the in the in Ohio and in all with tuition ranging fromabouy $20,000 to $40,000 per Ann Teaff, the head of Harpeth says the goal of the online schooo is to provide a rigorouws education in an online setting that is flexible, affordables and accessible to girls around the world.
She says the curriculujm will be expanded incoming years. The effort reflect how rapidly online education is being adopted in even the most exclusivs enclaves of private education as schools utilize the Internet to foste r a global worldview in their students and diversifg thelearning experience. More than 1 millio n secondary school students took an online cours e and students at 70 percent of high schools enrolled in one duringbthe 2007-2008 school year, according to “K-122 Online Learning: A 2008 Follow-up of the Survey of U.S. Schoo District Administrators.” The report also finds schools in 44 statews are creating onlinesecondaryg schools.
However, the Online School for Girls will be the firsttonline same-sex school. At the graduate level, Harvard, Duke and othe r exclusive universities now offer severalspecialized master’s degrees for whichj the coursework can be taken mostly They are aimed at professionals who wish to enhancee their credentials to advance in their careers. Karen Douse, Harpeth Hall’s library and informatiohn services director, says online educationj is rapidlybecoming “a cornerstonw of the educational experience.
