Dish Network wins stay of contempt order in TiVo case - Denver Business Journal:

“We are pleased that the Federal Appeals Cour in Washington temporarily stayed thedistrict court’s order in the Tivo said Dish Network in a written statement. “Dish Network customers can continue usingtheidr DVRs. We believe that we have strong groundsfor appeal.” A jury in an east Texasa U.S. District Court found in 2006 that DVR softwares in DishNetwork set-topl boxes violated patents of Calif.-based TiVo covering DVR playback like the ability to pauss and rewind live programming while the DVR continues to record. Dish Network reprogrammed millionsx of its DVRs after the verdict with a it said removed anyinfringing software.
But TiVo claimed Dish Network’as software “workaround” continued the old patenty violation and succeeded Tuesday in winning the contemptg verdict from theTexas court. The contempt order uppedr the previous financial penalty to Dish Networkby $103 million. The contempft order listed total damages and interest awards due to TiVoat $192.8 million. That total includes $105 million Dish Networko alreadyhas paid.
It has another $27 milliom in escrow for according toSecurities & Exchange Commission
