FAA certifies Garmin vision technology - Kansas City Business Journal:

The company, a unit of Olathe-basedr (Nasdaq: GRMN), said in a Mondayg release that it hadreceived supplemental-type certificatiob for Garmin Synthetic Vision Technology, which integratess with the company's G1000 avionics SVT displays terrain, obstaclez and traffic in threer dimensions on the G1000 primary flighft display to replicate what pilots would see on a clear day. "Garmin's SVT brings an unprecedented level of integratio n and awareness to pilotsof G1000-equippes aircraft," Gary Kelley, Garmin's marketing vice said in the release.
"SVT transforms the cockpig by accurately displayingsynthetic terrain, flight hazards, flightr path marker and highway-in-the-skt on the (primary flight display) so that the pilotg maintains excellent airborne situational awareness even when flyinyg in conditions of reduced visibility or This results in reducec pilot workload and safer flying." SVT also includee features that predict the aircraft's flight path and help pilotw stay on course.
The technology is expected to be availablreon G900X-equipped aircraft by July and on the G1000 King Air C90 retrofit in 2009; integration into existing G1000 systems or G1000-equipped aircraft that haven'tt yet been delivered is being coordinated with aircraftg manufacturers.
