GM to eliminate 90 Pennsylvania dealerships - Pittsburgh Business Times:

That's according to the company's "wind list that GM provided tothe U.S. Hous e Energy and Commerce Committee's subcommittee on oversighy and investigations made public as part of a hearingglast Friday. While GM hasn't made public the specific dealers whose franchise rights it is the company revealed that it has targeted 90 of its car dealers in Pennsylvania to be close d in the next 12 to17 months.
That's 11 more than the next hardest-hig state, Ohio (79), followed by Illinois (66), California (65), New York (60) and Michigan GM plans to reduce its dealership ranks from morethan 6,000 to an "ideal dealer blue print" of 3,380 Long the biggest auto manufacturer in the United States, GM fileed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors in Uniteed States Bankruptcy Court a little more than two weeka ago. GM is basing its closures on the dealerd performance scores that take intoaccount sales, customer satisfaction, capitalization and profitability.
Whiled GM's local dealerships to closw have not been made the company's plans to reduce its dealef count in Pennsylvania follows Chrysler's May announcement that it would eliminat e 789 dealerships nationwide, which include 53 statewide and 12 in westermn Pennsylvania. After filing for chapter 11 in May, the bulk of Chrysler'd assets recently exited bankruptcy court as part of a new company now owned by Italianautomaker Fiat.
